Cambourne Xtreme Youth Fest
Cambourne Xtreme Youth Festival is the brainchild of the Chair of Cambourne Youth Partnership. His vision was for a day which would not only showcase all the great things that the various youth groups in Cambourne were doing but to also give young people the chance to have a go at something new. The first Youth Fest took place in June 2009, now in its fourth year the fest has gone from strength to strength. Previous events have included a parade through the village, a large arena for a range of family orientated displays, a wall of death motorcycle stunt, stalls from just about every organisation in the area including food and drink, army displays, a climbing wall, archery, go-karts, zorbing, football, tennis, athletics, rugby, loads of bouncy castles and a live music stage.
Cambourne Youth Partnership represents all of the youth organisations in the village so it included youth clubs, uniformed groups and sports teams. The core team of organisers included members of the CYP board, the Cambourne social housing development officer, youth workers, the stART development manager, young people and parent volunteers. Each person took on either an area to organise or helped with finance, event management paperwork or booking and organising the key infrastructure.
The annual event is free to attend and funding comes from a variety of sources. A grant from Awards For All covered the first event and set it up for future years. Funding now comes from Cambourne Parish Council, advertising in the programme, sponsorship from local companies, a raffle and the local stART development manager contributes funding for the stage.
